A Summer of Service
Summer is a great time for units to work on the DCD Community Service Award. The Award will be presented to the units that demonstrate service to our communities of Garland, Rowlett and Sachse through public projects. There are numerous needs in our communities and resources can be made available to identify needs.
Units can download and use the spreadsheet from the Duck Creek website then maintain a log of their service projects, the number of youth participating, the amount of hours, the success of project and if you achieve any public recognitions such as pictures in newspapers, etc. Units may count qualifying service projects conducted between Feb. 1, 2016 through Jan. 31, 2017.
Eagle projects and projects where the unit is solely doing something for your sponsoring organization or as a Council activity will not count. This is to incentivize units to provide public services which go beyond our traditional practices. (As an example, participation in the Labor Day parade will count)
A formula, designed to create a balance between large and small units, will be used to determine the winners in each category (Pack, Troop, Crew/Team). This way each unit will have an equal chance in the competition. The DCD Community Service Awards will be presented at the District Dinner in February 2017. Along with the award, each awardee unit will be treated to an Ice Cream Party.
